After the 2019 "Snowmageddon" snow storm, our volunteers spent over 1,000 hours performing welfare checks, responding to medical emergencies, looking for missing persons, and setting up shelters.
Lane County Sheriff's Ground Search and Rescue, Inc., (GSAR) is registered with the State of Oregon as a Domestic Nonprofit Corporation and governed by a board of directors elected by its members. Approximately 120 active volunteers make Ground Search and Rescue the largest and most active of the eight Lane County search and rescue teams.
GSAR acts as a primary resource for the Lane County Sheriff's office, helping to locate, rescue, and recover lost or endangered persons in wilderness and urban settings.
In addition to rescue missions, GSAR members assist in evacuations and natural disaster response. They also spend time each year providing event first-aid services, staffing the Sheriff's life jacket exchange program, and helping with other community programs.
In total, our members volunteer nearly 20,000 hours of their time each year!
Volunteers train with the SKED rescue stretcher for confined spaces.
