Lane County Sheriff's Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR)
The Lane County Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) program consists of several specialized groups of dedicated volunteers from throughout the community. The Ground Search and Rescue group is the largest and most active SAR group in the county. We respond to reports of missing or injured people needing assistance, rescue, or recovery. We respond to calls 24 hours a day, and the program is covered under Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 404.200.
Our functions include, but are not limited to: organized searches for lost or missing subjects, providing basic wilderness medical aid when needed, transporting injured subjects from remote or wilderness locations, recovery of deceased subjects, aircraft and personal locator beacon searches, evidence searches in support of criminal investigations, disaster response, and general logistical support of Sheriff's Office personnel.
We also provide community service volunteers for various events throughout the year, usually as a means of fundraising. We sometimes provide mutual aid SAR capabilities to neighboring counties on an as-needed basis if requested by other sheriffs' search and rescue coordinators.
See the FAQ for information on becoming a SAR volunteer.
Donations are appreciated and tax-deductible; see the Contribute page for more information or email the GSAR Board of Directors.
